Equal Coverage for Mental Health Treatment

The Times reports on an imminent change in regulation that will cause psychological, psychiatric, and addiction treatments to be considered more equivalent to medical treatment by insurers. These changes will apply to nearly all forms of insurance besides Medicare and Medicaid, and seems especially poised to benefit veterans and individuals in emergency psychiatric settings. This move toward insurance parity represents one of (hopefully) several proposed public policy initiatives by the Obama administration to address the major obstacles and inequalities that prevent United States citizens from receiving the mental health care they need.
